E-Drum Buyer’s Guide: Finding Your Perfect Kit
Diving into electronic drums for the first time? You’ll quickly find yourself surrounded by an overwhelming number of kits, each with a long list of features, many of which might not even be necessary for you. This guide aims to spotlight the essential aspects of e-drum sets from our catalog, helping you make an informed choice.
Compact Class and Entry-Level Kits
Our compact e-drum kits are tailored for beginners looking to take their first steps in drumming without breaking the bank. These kits focus on core features and are designed for easy use. They come with smaller drum pads, allowing for a setup that is particularly suitable for young drummers and those with limited space.
The Millenium HD-120 is highly affordable and exceptionally compact, requiring a footprint of only 100 x 60 cm (approx. 40″ x 24″). If this doesn’t fit in your room, it’s likely no drum set will. The HD-120 comes with all necessary components of a complete drum kit, including four rubber drum pads, three cymbal pads, and two controller pedals for kick drum and hi-hat.
The Millenium MPS-150 is a step up from the HD-120. It’s the smallest member of our MPS family, which extends to our largest models. While still compact, it includes a kick pad with a real bass drum pedal, offering a more realistic playing experience. The MPS-150 is also available in an upgraded Millenium MPS-150X version with mesh heads instead of rubber pads, marking a transition into the mid-range.
Mid-Range E-Drum Sets
If you’re more serious about drumming, you should consider our mid-range options. These kits are all equipped with mesh heads, offering a more realistic rebound than rubber pads and being easier on the wrists.
The Millenium MPS-450 is still very compact and comes with 8” tom and kick pads. The 10” snare features two zones, allowing both the drumhead and the rim to have their own sounds, which is important for playing techniques like sidesticks or rimshots. Additionally, the module offers over 400 diverse sounds.
The Millenium MPS-750X represents a major step up from the MPS-450. With its larger pads, it’s clearly not part of the compact class. Toms, hi-hat and crash cymbal are all dual-zone pads with two sounds each, which is especially important for cymbals since edge and bow produce totally different sounds. The ride pad even offers three zones including the cymbal bell. Additionally, the hi-hat pad is mounted on a real hi-hat stand, which again is a big step up in realism. The MPS-750X offers nearly 700 sounds and features a Bluetooth interface, making it easy to play along with songs from your smartphone without any cable clutter.
If you’re into larger drum kits, the Millenium MPS-850 is for you. It’s the only e-drum set in our catalog that by default comes with four toms and three cymbals plus kick, snare and hi-hat. Similar to the 750X, all pads are dual-zone with an additional triple-zone ride. While the sound module lacks Bluetooth, it compensates with a sample import function, making it easy to load your own sounds and samples. If you prefer the Bluetooth function but still want a larger kit, you could get an MPS-750X and expand it with up to two additional pads.
